Tina began playing cornet at Exmouth Salvation Army and joined Tiverton Town Band in 1991 playing 3rd Cornet, soon progressing on to Flugal Horn. She moved to Principal seat in 1994. Her other hobbies include riding her motorcycle, helping other bands and socialising with family and friends. Tina works in a property management office in Tiverton . Tina also helps local funeral directors with last post duties, etc. Tina is married to Graham (Bandmaster) and leads the training band.
HANNAH SPOONER B.MUS GRNCM PGCE Soprano Cornet
Hannah plays Soprano Cornet in the band . She was educated at Torquay Grammar School for Girls and the Royal Northern College of Music where she gained her Bachelor of music and Graduate of the Royal Northern College of Music.She attended Rolle College Exmouth where she gained her Post Graduate Certificate of Education and was appointed Head of Music at St Cuthbert Mayne School,Torquay, In the past she has played for Wingates Temperance band, Besses o The Barn and Sellers bands. While at the Royal Northern College of Music Hannah had the experience of playing under many famous conductors while a member of the College brass band. An excellent soloist Hannah plays for Tiverton Town Band when work, and other band commitments allow. Hannah is married to John on 1st Horn.
LORRAINE AVERN Solo Cornet
Lorraine started playing Cornet at the age of 10 for Perranporth Town Band. Other bands she has played for are: St Newlyn East, Newquay Town, St Agnes Silver, Cornwall Youth Jazz Orchestra (quite a few years ago now!!) and Bryanek Ensemble. In 2002 she moved to Devon and joined Tiverton Town Band - initially it was only for a month to help out at a competition, but 9 years later she is still here. When she's not with the Town Band she is either out on her motorbike or playing bass guitar for Fiv5way (see links page) or more likely down the pub sampling a few ales.
RICHARD LEAMAN Solo Cornet
Richard started to play the cornet at the age of 11 for the original Teignbridge band in South Devon until the band folded. He joined Torrington Silver Band in 1990 after moving to North Devon and played solo cornet until moving to Tiverton in 2007. He joined Tiverton Town Band in 2007, and his daughter Niamh is currently playing 2nd horn.

GLYN LEWRY 2nd Cornet
Glyn started playing at the age of 7 with The Salvation Army on Cornet. He spent many years playing in the local Salvation Army band. Many years later after he had got married to Mandy, he moved around a bit and played with other Salvation Army bands most of the time on Cornet but played other instruments as required. After moving back home and not playing for a few years Glyn was asked to help Tiverton Town Band on a parade, for a one off, which he did and hasn’t looked back since. Within the band Glyn has spent time on BBb Bass and occasionaly helping out on Horn but is now back on the Cornet bench.
JILLIAN WELDON 2nd Cornet
Jillian only started playing a brass instrument, after retiring from teaching. She has been a regular member when her love of walking as allowed her. There are a few players in the band that she had contact with as a teacher, whilst at Elmore school in Tiverton.
DAVE BROOMFIELD 3rd Cornet Bandmasters Player of the Year 2009
Dave has had connections with the band for many years being the son of former Bandmaster Ted Broomfield. He has always played the cornet and was a regular player on the front row for many years. After a short break he came back to the band and is enjoying his banding sitting on, and being part of, a strong back row cornet line
LORRAINE DURRANT 3rd Cornet
Lorraine started playing the violin at the age of 10 she then moved onto the cornet at the age of 13 whilst at Cullompton School and continued until she left at which point she had to give her school instrument back!! Many many many years later whilst her children were learning to play the whole family joined the training band under the guidance of Kartrina. Lorraine enjoyed it so much that when she was invited to play with the grown ups she jumped at the chance and has been sitting on the back row since 2001.
HELEN DAVIS 2nd Cornet
Helen joined the training band in October 2008 and at the time was unable to read music or play an instrument. Helen has since progressed in training band where she continues to play cornet but also plays with the main band when she can. Helen works as a Legal Executive dealing with Conveyancing in Cullompton where she has always lived.
KATRINA BARKER Flugal Horn
Trina learnt to play the cornet at the age of 12 in the Tiverton Training Band under the tuition of the late Ted Broomfield. The band became part of her life and 16 years later she still very much enjoying being with her family: Mum is Tina and stepdad is Graham, and friends. She now plays flugal and helps out with teaching various members and helping develop the youngster's to help them have the opportunities that she has had with the Band. Trina says the best thing which has happened for her, whilst in the band, was being filmed for Westcountry television programme called "Faking It" when she swapped from the Band and joined a Ska Punk Band - that was an experience!
ELIZABETH PAYNE Solo Horn Musical Directors Player of the Year 2009
Liz joined the band in 1999 not being able to play an instrument or read music. Since then she has enjoyed playing and also enjoys socialising with the band. A Full time mum to Ashleigh and Leanne who play in the training band and little Chloe who is sure to follow. Liz is at present the Band Secretary. She is also married to our percussionist Andrew.
JOHN SPOONER 1st Horn
John is a very accomplished horn player having many years experience playing with band's 'up north'. Married to Hannah on Soprano Cornet he has just taken his final exams for a teaching qualification and at the moment works in Torquay. John enjoys his playing and also likes his motorcycling.
ARTHUR BEECH 2nd Horn
Arthur learnt the Tenor Horn in the Salvation Army… at the age of 49. A great example to anyone who wished they had learnt at school – it's not too late! Now retired, Arthur enjoys playing in the Band and had a great time in Texas.
NIAMH LEAMAN 2nd Horn
Niamh has been playing with the training group for a couple of years and has spent the last six months sitting in with the senior band at fetes and during the christmas period. She is progressing well and hopes to be a fixture in the band at a number of 2010 events
AMANDA LEWRY Euphonium Musical Directors Player of the Year Runner Up 2009
Mandy learnt to play at the age of 11 within the Salvation Army. When asked what she wanted to play, she said Trombone, only to be told that she’d be playing Tenor Horn. Mandy played for a number of years within the local Salvation Army and after marrying Glyn,she moved around and played with other Salvation Army bands on Baritone, Flugal Horn, but never on the desired Trombone. After moving back to Tiverton and not playing for a number of years was asked to help with a one off parade for the Town Band and hasn’t stopped. Within the band Mandy has played a number of instruments, Tenor Horn, Euphonium, Baritone and is presently back on Euphonium. She started to teach herself Trombone but found the Euphonium much more interesting and challenging.
JOHN FITTON MSc BMus LLCM AMusLCM PGCE Euphonium
John initially joined the band sitting next to Edgar Pillivant on BBflat bass back in the 1990s. He has played with South Molton and Lympstone in contests and has now returned to Tiverton to play euphonium and support his pupils in the band. John teaches music privately, and in a number of local primary schools. He has conducted many musical groups in the town .
DAVE HUXHAM Euphonium
Dave has been a member of the band since the early nineties and has brought a lot of experience with him. He works for Devon County Council and enjoys playing golf and riding his motorcycle.
LEAH ELLIS 1st Baritone
When Leah married trombonist Dan in 2004, she knew that she would have to learn a brass instrument. Already accomplished on the clarinet the transition didn't take long and she now enjoys playing with the band . A full time mum, taking up much of her spare time is young daughter Merryn who is getting used to rhythms so she can join the band in the future.
STEPHEN PILLIVANT 2nd Baritone
Stephen is probably the bands longest serving member, having joined the band in 1965. He has always played the euphonium after being taught at the Salvation Army in Tiverton. He is also assisting with the bands comprehensive library along with his son Richard our librarian .
GRAHAM PILLIVANT Solo Trombone - Bandmaster
Graham joined the band at the age of 6 and has always played the Trombone, although he can be seen sitting on other seats when the need has arisen. Has been Bandmaster of the band since 1984 and has seen a vast number of changes in the band. Graham can also be seen helping a lot of other bands around the south west.He is also called upon to conduct the band when the need arises . As well as playing in the band Graham also enjoys riding his BMW although he finds it hard carrying his trombone on the bike. He manages a Police storeage compound for Lamb Hill Recovery based in Cullompton, and is married to Tina on principal cornet.

DANIEL ELLIS 2nd Trombone
Dan was born in Truro, Cornwall. He has been a member of Tiverton Town Band for 16 years and has always played Trombone. Dan is married to Leah on baritone and is currently a civil servant working for Mid Devon District Council. In his spare time he enjoys riding his Motorcycle and watching Football.

Royston is one of the newest members of the band . An accomplished pianist he joined the band when he took up playing the tuba in 2008. His other interests include Karate where he has gained his black belt 4th dan .
TONY MARTIN Bb Bass
Tony has been with the band for 7 years and has the responsibility of driving the van around with all the equipment in. He returned to playing after seeing the band at Witheridge fair and talking to players to see if there were any vacancies. He enjoys playing Bass and helps with the training group when time allows.
PAUL GILBERT EEb Bass
Paul rejoined the band in 1996 after a 16 year ‘sabbatical’. Having originally played cornet, he joined the Horn bench on his return, moving from Solo Horn to EEb Bass in 2006 to fill an empty seat prior to the Band’s visit to Texas. He must have enjoyed playing the Bass as he has insisted on staying put! Looking ahead Paul is looking forward to a trip 'up north' later this year, to play with the world-famous Grimethorpe Colliery Band. Away from the Band, Paul is a keen semi-professional photographer, busy with Weddings during the summer months. He is married with two daughters & two grandchildren.
MIKE PIKE EEb Bass
Mike started playing at the age of 11yrs on Cornet, moving to Tenor Horn and then finally to Eb Bass at the age of 18yrs. He learnt to play with the Salvation Army in Tiverton under the guidance of Alf Gilbert. Mike has enjoyed many good times with the band and is now one of our senior members. He hopes to keep playing as long as he can put air in one end of the Bass and it still comes out the other end!
ANDY PAYNE -- Percussion Bandperson of the year 2009
Andy first started playing in the boys brigade when he was 7yrs old. He started to learn the side drum and after liking this he went on to learn kit drums. After many years with the boys brigade he achieved the Presidents' and Queens' awards which are the highest awards within the organisation. He followed this acheivment by becoming the somerset band champion and west of england band champion for side drum. This he was really proud of. He then had short spell with Wellington Silver Band and then in 1997 he joined Tiverton Town Band. He has spent the past 12 yrs really enjoying playing, socialising and riding his motorcycle, and has enjoyed being part of the bands' achievements.
MARTYN PILLIVANT Percussion
Martyn has been connected to the band all his life ,being the son of our Bandmaster Graham. He joined the band playing Bass Drum on parades and Carnivals, then moving to the percussion section to assist with everything that needed to be played. he has also tried the Trombone but wanted to " leave that to dad ". Has many nicknames in the band but the most common is 'ting' for his triangle solo part, helping the band win the Ungraded and the Fourth section at Cornwall contest in 2008. Other interests include playing football and riding his motorcycle.
MARTY DAVIES percussion
Marty started playing classical guitarat the age of 7, moving on to piano at 11. She started playing percussion at the age of 12 when a music teacher realised he didnt have any percussionists to play The Dambusters March at a upcoming concert. She then joined the Brighton Junior Youth Orchestra , moving to the senior orchestra at 14. After leaving at 18, she came back to music via a Post Graduate Certificate of Education, and a chance meeting with a piano tuner who happened to play cornet with the Lympstone band. Life, family and ill health led to her 'wilderness years' until December 2008, when she encountered Tiverton Band playing christmas music outside her workplace. She joined the band and has now added a brand new set of timps to the list of percussion equipment she has control of. She is also proud to be part of the community group known as Tiverton Town Band . Marty works as a health care assistant in Tiverton town centre.
